Each year between January and Annual
Meeting in April, candidates are permitted to submit a
profile containing their personal data and qualifications.
This information is only maintained for the current year and
must be re-submitted each year that the member petitions the
office for candidacy.
These candidate profiles are brief outlines submitted by the
candidate. The profiles are intended to educate members
about the experience and qualifications of the candidates
seeking office. They are not intended to be a solicitation.
The content of the individual candidate profile is the
responsibility of that candidate and is not the opinion of
the BR&CF.
Mr. Day currently serves as Terminal President in Lincoln, Nebraska. This is his second terminal position having previously served in Pueblo, Colorado. He has been a proud member of the BR&CF since January 1975 and is a member of the BLET Local 621, Wymore, Nebraska.
Mr. Day began his career in 1973 as a laborer in the car shops in Springfield, Missouri. Motivated to succeed and to move up in the industry, a year later he started his train service in Monett, Missouri. Soon thereafter, he entered the Frisco Engineer Training program and was promoted to Locomotive Engineer in 1975.
Facing a furlough in 1984, he accepted the opportunity to transfer to Trinidad, Colorado. This opened many learning opportunities including his first time on coal trains operating over very rugged terrain throughout New Mexico and Texas. This was the beginning of his expanded train operation and he has operated trains in 11 states.
Through his young career, he could see training issues that he thought should be addressed. Those ideas eventually came to light when in 1991 Mr. Day was asked to come to the Technical Training Center in Overland Park, Kansas. His primary duties involved helping in the development of the Federal Certification Program for Locomotive Engineers. Having a background in radio broadcasting, Mr. Day narrated several training videos for the Center. Many of these videos are still in use today. In 1993, Mr. Day became Assistant Manager of Engineer Training, and Assistant Manager of Operating Rules in Overland Park, Kansas. While there, he developed the "signal flashcard" training tool. This is still used today and is given to all students on the BNSF Railroad.
In 1995 Mr. Day was assigned to Alliance, Nebraska as Road Foremen of Engines. After more than a year in this position, he decided he would like to return to engine service. He then moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. Mr. Day's exempt experience provided him with a greater knowledge of growing technology and the ever-changing rules and regulations; this reinforces the need for job income protection provided by the BR&CF.
Mr. Day now resides in Omaha, Nebraska, married to a wonderful lady, Diane, a retired Navy Chief with 21 years of active duty. Keith has two children residing in Missouri and Illinois. Diane has two sons in Colorado and Arizona. Their expanded family also includes six grandchildren. Keith and Diane enjoy traveling, exploring new restaurants and visiting family. Keith enjoys golf and plays as often as work and weather allow.
Keith, also a veteran of the Vietnam War era, served in the U.S. Air Force as a Crew Chief on C-141 Aircraft in Tacoma, Washington and as a Crew Chief on F-5 and F-100 Fighters while on reserve duty in St. Louis, Missouri.
Keith is a native of Springfield, Missouri, born in 1951. He attended Glendale High, and Southwest Missouri State University. His life's education has been the result of over 38 years of serving in many capacities on the railroad. This coupled with his ability to listen and relate to others and their experiences have proven to be invaluable. Helping people has always been his highest priority and the BR&CF provides an ongoing opportunity to fulfill this priority.
R.J. Myers became a B.R.& C.F. member in 1976, when he hired on Conrail in engine service. Always active as a member, he was appointed to the position of Terminal President of Terminal 110, Harrisburg Pennsylvania in 1981. Realizing the good that the Organization did for its members he participated in Annual Meetings and in 1985 was appointed as International Secretary-Treasurer. In 1988, upon the retirement of M.H. Williams, he sought and was elected as the International President. He remained in that position until his retirement in 2006 at which time he was elected as a Director. It was anticipated that his experience and familiarity with the Organization would be a benefit to the members and incoming administration.
Richard is a U.S. Navy veteran and spent five years in Viet Nam, where he met his wife Kim. After leaving the service he spent time in Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands in support of the Apollo Missions and then returned to Viet Nam until evacuated by helicopter when the country fell to the communists in 1975.
A thirty-three year B.L.E. Division 74 member he
continues to stay apprised of today's railroad
conditions and issues.
It is his hope that the U.S. looks to the rail
industry as a source to move people and resolve some of
our consumable fuel issues.
Richard and Kim now live in Myrtle Beach, South
Carolina, and spend a majority of their time with
grandchildren and caring for two aging mothers.
They have two daughters, Cari Ann, the youngest, lives
in Myrtle Beach
and has two children. Thuy lives in Sanford,
Florida and has one daughter. Richard is active in
veterans affairs and tries to assist other vets in
obtaining care and benefits that they may be entitled
to. Although he misses seeing the friends and
associates he has made over the years, he has managed to
stay in touch with many of
them following
his retirement.
