Richard J. Myers...

Terminal 110 Harrisburg, PA...

Richard J. Myers served as the Organization's International President from April 1988, until his retirement in April 2006. Originally from Omaha Nebraska, the Myers family relocated to Pennsylvania when Richard's father John, who had been a Union Pacific conductor, took a position with the B.R.& C.F. in the Principal Office.

After completing high school, Richard joined the U.S. Navy and served in such exotic places as New London CT, Key West FL, Guantanamo Bay Cuba and off the coast of Viet Nam on a heavy cruiser which was based in Norfolk VA. After being released from active duty, Richard accepted a position with a government contractor on Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands. There he worked as a Technical Controller in the communications area in support of the Western Test Range which involved service to the Apollo Project.

After approximately two and a half years in Kwajalein, he accepted a position with a federal contractor in the Republic of Viet Nam. There, he met his wife Kim. They have two grown daughters and three grand children. Their eldest daughter, Thuy lives just outside of Orlando, where she works as a software engineer and their youngest, Cari Ann lives in Myrtle Beach SC, where she works as a registered nurse at the Costal Cancer Center.

Following the fall of Viet Nam to the communists, Richard returned to Harrisburg and hired in engine service on the railroad. When he hired on Conrail, he joined the B.L.E.- (T), Division 74 and remains a member today. His father had encouraged him to participate in the B.R.& C.F. as an obtainer and take an interest in the Organization as a member. In 1981, then President Robert White appointed him as the Terminal President in Harrisburg. John Myers had retired in 1978, after working for the B.R.& C.F. for over 22 years. He passed away in April of 1994. Richard was appointed International Secretary-Treasurer in 1985 and elected to a five year term to that position the following year. In 1988 he sought and was elected to serve as the International President, the position he held until his retirement. He remains very proud of the accomplishments the Organization made during his watch.

With the many years of involvement with the B.R.& C.F., he understands the importance of being involved in the Organization. He encourages members to participate in the process and be involved in its progress. The B.R.& C.F.belongs to its members and will only achieve what it is capable of if the members become involved.

Upon retirement Richard and Kim relocated to Myrtle Beach SC, where he thought he would relax and play golf. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day. He is deeply involved in his grandsons activities and helps coach a baseball team. He also provides taxi service for the grand kids when called upon. Richard has managed to maintain many of the friendships he developed over the years and enjoys hearing from old friends.
