E. Hunter Harrison passed away in late 2017; however, his legacy continues to reverberate throughout the rail industry. Mr. Harrison is best known for his implementation of Precision Scheduled Railroading (PSR) at Canadian National, Canadian Pacific and CSX. Several other U.S. rail carriers are in the process of implementing PSR. As many of our members have witnessed firsthand, PSR brings significant changes in the way trains are built and moved throughout each rail carrier’s respective network. Rail carriers that implemented PSR have closed facilities and terminals, sold portions of their rail lines, reduced assets, and furloughed employees.
